Who are the Positive Dog Trainers Academy?
The Positive Dog Trainers Academy (PDTA) was founded by Maria-Christina Patala, a Cyprus based force free dog trainer. Maria-Christina is a Dog Training College (DTC) Approved Instructor, Pet Professional Network (PPN) member, Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT ) full member and Pet Professional Guild (PPG) member.
The PDTA is based in Cyprus but attracts students worldwide. Students are required to travel to Cyprus to complete part of the course.

Frederick University PDTA students gain opportunities to train and study with leaders in the field of not only dog behaviour, but also human psychology. Frederick University Professors deliver lessons as part of the PDTA programme.
Dog Training College
PDTA graduates are eligible for automatic Approved Instructor Status. This means graduates will benefit from gaining referrals directly from the DTC and will have opportunities exclusively for Approved Instructors including free training, discounts and job opportunities.
Pet Professional Network
PDTA works in collaboration with the Pet Professional Network which can offer students and graduates world class business support.
International Companion Animal Network
PDTA are recognised by ICAN as a member organisation.

The PDTA Professional Dog Trainer Course is taught by Maria-Christina Patala, Craig O’Gilvie, Helen Motteram, Stephanie Karageorgis, Dr Petevinos and Dr Demetriou.
The curriculum is made up of:
- Three separate 5-day in-person courses at Dog Coach School in Nicosia, Cyprus.
- Four separate half day in-person courses.
- Two reading assignments with Q&A online assessment.
- 30 hours of practical hands-on training at shelters with video analysis.
- Final assessment with written and practical examination.
